ICD-10-CM is the universal diagnostic code set proposed to replace ICD-9-CM, Volumes 1 and 2. ICD-10-PCS is the proposed new procedure coding system that is being developed as a replacement for ICD-9-CM, Volume 3. The latter is the procedure coding system used for coding procedural services for hospital inpatients. As of now, CPT procedure codes will continue to be used to report procedures performed in the ED and other outpatient settings.

The convenience of using acronyms and abbreviations can be outweighed by the danger in doing so. In some cases, ambiguity in interpretation can lead to situations in which patient safety may be compromised.

The abbreviations included in this edition have been compared with the Joint Commission JCAHO "Do not use" list, and those that occur on this list are so identified.

After authenticating (using the "fulltext" "journals" ID and password), you will be able to link directly to full text content within different resources and view the latest articles or issues.

Ask your librarian for assistance in locating other titles. Any specific article can be delivered to you without charge from any exisiting journal using Interlibrary loan or document delivery services.
