The aim of the DIMRC web site is to provide access to quality disaster health information at all stages of preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery.

The initial phase of this web site focuses on NLM and NLM-supported resources and activities. The web site will expand to include other sources of authoritative disaster health information.

ICD-10-CM is the universal diagnostic code set proposed to replace ICD-9-CM, Volumes 1 and 2. ICD-10-PCS is the proposed new procedure coding system that is being developed as a replacement for ICD-9-CM, Volume 3. The latter is the procedure coding system used for coding procedural services for hospital inpatients. As of now, CPT procedure codes will continue to be used to report procedures performed in the ED and other outpatient settings.

The convenience of using acronyms and abbreviations can be outweighed by the danger in doing so. In some cases, ambiguity in interpretation can lead to situations in which patient safety may be compromised.

The abbreviations included in this edition have been compared with the Joint Commission JCAHO "Do not use" list, and those that occur on this list are so identified.
